We can get BBC on UPC as they have the right to broadcast on UPC which is carried here. Its the same as getting RTE on SKY, that involves platform rights as opposed to territory rights which are sold differently. However we cannot get BBC iPlayer in the Netherlands. With the advent of internet broadcasting its is a rights system “hot potato” and there is more content distributors watching this as opposed to basic cable/ satellite broadcasting which is more difficult to regulate.

What I find strange is that RTE aren’t allowed broadcast any Olympic material outside Ireland yet we can get full BBC coverage over here in NL which is surely outside their territory.

And for amazing non-touristy steak (and the BEST frites I’ve ever had in Ams) may I recommend De Zotte on Raamstraat – not too far from you either. I’m starving now just thinking about it…
